YOUR VOICE MATTERS — AND SO
DO YOUR IMMIGRATION OPTIONS
|
|
|
|
October brings important dates and topics for our community.
First, for U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote in Indiana, October 5, 2026, is the deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration before the November general election.
Voting is one of the most direct ways to

participate
in decisions that affect our communities, schools, families, and
neighborhoods. Regardless of your political preferences, if you are
eligible to vote, make sure to check your registration and do not miss
the deadline.
We also want to clarify two immigration topics that we have received many questions about recently.

U VISAS ARE STILL BEING PROCESSED
The U visa remains an option for certain victims of crime who have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse and who have helped, are helping, or are likely to help law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime.
Although these cases can take a long time, USCIS continues to process U visa petitions. Having a case pending for several years does not necessarily mean that the program has ended or that the case has been abandoned.
Depending on the circumstances, some applicants may also receive a bona fide determination, deferred action, and employment authorization while they wait for a final decision.

Military Parole in Place is also continuing
Military Parole in Place, or Military PIP, is also continuing to be processed.
This benefit may be available to certain family members of members of the U.S. Armed Forces, members of certain Reserve units, and some veterans.
In certain cases, the spouse, parent, son, or daughter of a service member or veteran may be eligible. However, every case is reviewed individually, and approval is not automatic.
It is important not to confuse Military Parole in Place with other parole programs that have been subject to recent changes or litigation. The program for certain military families continues to exist.

GET INFORMED BEFORE ASSUMING THERE ARE NO OPTIONS
Immigration laws and policies can change quickly, and rumors on social media can cause a great deal of confusion.
If you have a pending U visa, believe you may qualify for one, or have a family member who serves or has served in the U.S. Armed Forces, it is important to review your specific situation before assuming that an option is no longer available.
And for those who are eligible to vote in Indiana, remember:
October 5, 2026: the last day to register to vote.
Stay informed, ask questions, and know your rights and your options.
